There are those who think that
life has nothing left to chance,
A host of holy horrors to
direct our aimless dance.

A planet of playthings,
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
"The stars aren't aligned,
Or the gods are malign..."
Blame is better to give than receive.

You can choose a ready guide
in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide,
you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears
and kindness that can kill;
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill.

There are those who think that
they were dealt a losing hand,
The cards were stacked against them;
they weren't born in Lotusland.

All preordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate.
Kicked in the face,
You can't pray for a place
In heaven's unearthly estate.

Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete.
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt that's far too fleet.

he who loves 50 people has 50 woes
he who loves no one has no woes

the station agent

station agent portrays the behaviour of humanity towards someone who doesnt look like the majority physically. finbar mcbride is a dwarf who moves in to a silent neighbourhood after inheriting a inactive train depot to pursue his hobby of trainspotting and to be away from the madding crowd that scoffs relentlessly at his 4' 5". there is absolutely no plot in the movie and this movie reminded me of the straight story which was just as sweet and delved into human intimacies. it also reminded me of pithamagan. the movie relied heavily on the beauty of newfoundland countryside to etch the beauty of the simple but strong relationships of fin with joe and olivia. the irony of life is that fin wants to stay secluded but everyone wants to be with him and when he gets attached to them and wants them no one is around to support him. the storytelling is uncannily simple and unpretentious. dwarfism is treated almost as race, in terms of pain and misunderstanding that surrounds it.
loneliness is so much better when you got someone to share it with.

pluck this little flower and take it,
delay not! i fear lest it
droop and drop into the dust.
i may not find a place in thy garland,
but honour it with a touch of
pain from thy hand and pluck it.
i fear lest the day end before i am
aware, and the time of offering go by.
though its colour be not deep
and its smell be faint, use this flower
in thy service and pluck it while there is time.

american history x

how edward norton missed the oscar for this is beyond me. american history x is a powerful portrayal of neo-nazi movement in america. edward norton plays derek vinyard, an intelligent, violent and racist skinhead. furlong plays derek's younger brother danny who follows derek in his nazi quest for colored blood. furlong leaves his t2 heritage behind and impresses. the movie starts with a flashback where norton kills two black fellas and goes to prison. he returns reformed only to find his brother and ex-fellow skinheads worshipping him and trudging down the same tracks. the story is directed and told tastefully with great flashback slow-mos in greyscale that heighten the emotions of the frames. ahx has some really stunning scenes like the opening scene of the movie with the shootout and the argument over the dinner table and the whole prison flashback sequence. ahx goes on to prove that nobody is right or wrong. this film must be made available as a part of school curriculum in racist states. i wont recommend this movie to the faint at heart, or ones easily swayed by propaganda but to ones who are open to grab the message of the movie.
life is too short too be pissed off all the time.

cc: pearl jam

this has to be a major breakthru in the music industry..
pearl jam has released their first video in a very long time
under creative commons license allowing anyone to "copy,
distribute or share the clip".
this is not new but definitely a first time that a major label
has released something under creative commons.

an equal music

perhaps this could have stayed unstated.
had our words turned to other things
in the grey park, the rain abated,
life would have quickened other strings.
i list your gifts in this creation:
pen, paper, ink and inspiration,
peace to the heart with touch or word,
ease to the soul with note and chord.

how did that walk, those winter hours,
occasion this? No lightning came;
nor did I sense, when touched by flame,
our story lit with borrowed powers -
rather, by what our spirits burned,
embered in words, to us returned.

for all non-geeks who dont want to go through irc channels
for hunting mp3z or paranoid androids who dont want to
use p2p clients,
here is a simple way of using google to get mp3z without
going thru all those stupid mp3 download sites and
put this in the google search box.

intitle:index.of + "mp3" -htm -html -php -asp + "search term here

where search term here is the artist or song title or both.

here is an example,
intitle:index.of + "mp3" -htm -html -php -asp + "flack killing me softly

mulholland drive

i just viewed a masterpiece. i am not gonna stop raving about it for a very long time. this is my 3rd lynch film after the straight story and the elephant man, and the most bizarre one of the lot. its the most thrilling, visually enticing, stylish, densest plots i've ever seen in modern cinema. it is as though lynch managed to capture someone's dreams on film. the film's real and fantasy plots are mangled like spaghetti and just keeps you guessing what is real. in the end, you can find that the film has managed to keep you rivited not just for the time when you were watching it, but long long after the movie is over with the interpritive discussions you will have for unlocking mulholland drive. the film is not just non-linear but it has multiple narratives, and imagine these multiple narratives to be non-linearly schizophrenic. the output is spectacularly surreal. the cast is brilliant and so is the editing and the direction. there was something oddly creepy about this film and i realised later its the lighting. a weird thriller that deservingly won lynch the best director award at cannes. must watch. 9/10
