70mm

+s

-s
  • only 10k titles compared to netflix's 65k. and the 10k includes regional movies as well
  • site movie search sucks since it searches for words like "of" "it" etc. too.
  • they have a genre called tragedy. and its only for regional movies. wtf?
  • only one movie of kubrick ( barry lyndon ), none of godard, and only one by kurosawa ( "ran" ), no truffaut, no bergman, no bresson. lame.
  • bad data. when did de palma make "asambhav lakshya"?
  • the 90s called, they want their vcds back. most of the goldies are available only as vcds. yuck.
  • It takes 1 business day to deliver your movies and 2 to take them back. And max 2 at a time ( both at once btw ). Doing a small math, you would be lucky if you can get 4 per week and hence about 16 per month ( consider yourself very lucky ). So unlimited == 16.
  • No you cant return the movie directly at their office. This is answer to Q 31 in their FAQ. So no room watsoever for greed. such good souls. gotta learn to appreciate them.
seventymm sucks porcupine testicles. I waaaaaaant netflix as-is in india.

me too checked out this a couple of days back...oooh search sucks big time my guess about this business is this...some guy with shit load money bot the whole of planet M collection and started renting it out..worked out some logic to bypass legalities :) i have seen half the collection listed in the site in planet M :) you cant blame him either its pretty tough for the DVD/VCD companies like saregama, Excel, HMV etc..they cant afford to get the rights of english movies from the owning companies..if at all they can afford for the rights it would be really tough with our censor board or wotever board which controls DVD stuff in india...next thing is its really tough to market them and sell enough copies to make a profit..let alone profit even recovering the cost involved in bringing the cd to india. they can only bank on dependable movies like monster flicks, dino flicks etc., market for kubrick stuff and movies of the likes of imdb top 250 is too negligible in india...thats the top most reason why even movie channels cant afford to allot a time slot..i bet z studio is running on a loss :)) no wonder he scratches the hell out of aviator and the likes :) there are lot more reasons..piracy for one...the day after fight club comes out in planet m it is ripped and sold in national market...you simply cant fight this kinda piracy. but look at the bright side of all this..atleast we have grown as an economy to support such a business venture...may be 20-30 yrs down the line we will be able to do a singapore or dubai in our own indi way :))btw bond festival in star movies starting this oct 30th all 20 movies one per day...sad part is i cant watch even one :(

after writing this comment i got this doubt..am not able to come up with a convincing answer...its tough only with english movies...what happened to good old indian classic movies..y not satyajit ray's or k balachanders classics selling like hot cakes..clearly there cant be any technical difficulties in converting them to DVDs :?

haha.. no cheap sentiments like "i wrote code" and crap.. netflix has every almost every DVD ever published.. it has some stuff that i cant lay my hands on anywhere. and there are some backlogs on my wishlist for years now thats why. and ofcourse the bandwidth offered by courier/postal service is unmatchable ;)
